On October 22, a plenary session of the Constitutional Court of the Azerbaijan Republic tool place under the chairmanship of the court’s Chairman Farkhad Abdullayev to consider materials submitted by the Central Electoral Commission and officially announce the results of the October 15 presidential elections in Azerbaijan.
Present in the session were Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission Mazahir Panakhov, his Deputy Svetlana Gasymova, Secretary Natig Mamadov, members of the commission and experts.

On September 17, the Chairman of Azerbaijan`s Constitutional Court Farhad Abdullayev met with the head of PACE Special Committee`s pre-election observation mission on Azerbaijan Andreas Herkel and his accompanied delegation.
Mr. Abdullayev underlined that employees of the Constitutional Court participate in the electoral process as observers. In accordance with the Constitution of Azerbaijan Republic, the Constitutional Court takes part in the electoral process after the Central Electoral Commission presents the results of the elections, said Mr. Abdullayev.

On September 26, the Chairman of Azerbaijan`s Constitutional Court Farhad Abdullayev met Friday with Turkey`s Minister of Justice Mehmet Ali Shahin in Baku.
Mr. Abdullayev stressed the importance of enhancing friendly and fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey.
He also briefed the Turkish Minister on successful results of judicial/legal reforms carried out in his country.

About Constitutional Court |
|
The Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan Republic is the supreme body of constitutional justice on the matters attributed to its jurisdiction by the Constitution of Azerbaijan Republic. Constitutional Court is an independent state body and does not depend in its organizational, financial or any other form of activity on any legislative, executive and other judicial bodies, local self-government bodies as well as legal and physical persons. Basic objectives of the Constitutional Court are the ensuring of the supremacy of the Constitution of Azerbaijan Republic and protection of individual’s fundamental rights and freedoms.
The Сonstitutional Сourt was set up on 14 July 1998. The legal basis for the activity of the Constitutional Court is the Constitution of Azerbaijan Republic adopted on 12 November 1995 (with modifications introduced as a result of referendum held on 24 August 2002), interstate agreements that Azerbaijan Republic is a party to, Law “On Constitutional Court” adopted on 23 December 2003, other laws and the Rules of Procedure of the Constitutional Court. Articles 86, 88, 102, 103, 104, 107, 130, 153 and 154 of the Constitution regulate the issues of Court’s formation and functioning. The functioning of the Constitutional Court shall be based on the principle of supremacy of the Constitution of Azerbaijan Republic as well as principles of independence, collegiality and publicity. |
