On 17 March  Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan Farhad Abdullayev has met with members of an ad-hoc committee to observe constitutional referendum in Azerbaijan led by representative of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Paul Wille.

Chairman of Azerbaijan`s Constitutional Court participates in World Conference on Constitutional Justice PDF Print E-mail

On January 21-24 Azerbaijani delegation led by Chairman of the Constitutional Court Farhad Abdullayev participated in the World Conference on Constitutional Justice on the topic “Influential Constitutional Justice - its influence on society and on developing a global jurisprudence on human rights” in Cape Town. The event was hosted by Constitutional Court of the Republic of South Africa and the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe. This event coincided with the 60th anniversary of the Council of Europe and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Constitutional Court makes judgment on draft act of referendum “On making amendments and supplements” to Constitution of Azerbaijan Republic PDF Print E-mail

A plenary session of the Constitutional Court of the Azerbaijan Republic presided over by its Chairman Farhad Abdullayev took place on December 24 to consider the draft Act of referendum “On making amendments and supplements to the Constitution of Azerbaijan” earlier submitted by the Milli Majlis to the court for a judgment.
Having heard the reports by judges of the Constitutional Court and statements by representatives of an interested subject, the court decided that the proposals provided for in the draft Act of referendum “On making amendments and supplements to the Constitution of Azerbaijan” can be put to a nationwide referendum.

About Constitutional Court

 

The Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan Republic is the supreme body of constitutional justice on the matters attributed to its jurisdiction by the Constitution of Azerbaijan Republic. Constitutional Court is an independent state body and does not depend in its organizational, financial or any other form of activity on any legislative, executive and other judicial bodies, local self-government bodies as well as legal and physical persons. Basic objectives of the Constitutional Court are the ensuring of the supremacy of the Constitution of Azerbaijan Republic and protection of individual’s fundamental rights and freedoms.

The Сonstitutional Сourt was set up on 14 July 1998. The legal basis for the activity of the Constitutional Court is the Constitution of Azerbaijan Republic adopted on 12 November 1995 (with modifications introduced as a result of referendum held on 24 August 2002), interstate agreements that Azerbaijan Republic is a party to, Law “On Constitutional Court” adopted on 23 December 2003, other laws and the Rules of Procedure of the Constitutional Court.
Articles 86, 88, 102, 103, 104, 107, 130, 153 and 154 of the Constitution regulate the issues of Court’s formation and functioning. The functioning of the Constitutional Court shall be based on the principle of supremacy of the Constitution of Azerbaijan Republic as well as principles of independence, collegiality and publicity.
